About the Role:

You will take full responsibility for a Year 6 class, planning and delivering engaging lessons across the curriculum that secure progress and readiness for Key Stage 3. Working closely with colleagues and leadership, you will contribute to whole-school standards, assessment, and enrichment activities, ensuring pupils are challenged, supported, and motivated to achieve their best.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, establishing clear routines and a positive learning environment.
  • Use ongoing assessment to track pupil progress, identify gaps, and adapt teaching to secure strong outcomes, including end-of-Key Stage assessments.
  • Provide targeted support and challenge to pupils with diverse learning needs, including SEND, EAL, and higher attainers.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil attainment and progress, contributing to data analysis and reporting to senior leaders.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and carers, providing clear feedback on pupil progress and supporting home–school partnership.
  • Contribute to planning meetings, moderation activities, and wider school initiatives as an active member of the staff team.
  • Organise and support educational visits, transition activities, and enrichment opportunities relevant to the Year 6 curriculum.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience teaching in Key Stage 2, with specific experience in Year 6 or upper KS2 strongly preferred.
  • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to maintain high expectations and a calm, purposeful learning environment.
  • Demonstrable expertise in lesson planning and curriculum delivery aligned to the National Curriculum.
  • Ability to differentiate effectively to meet a wide range of learning needs and styles.
  • Confident use of formative and summative assessment to inform planning and raise attainment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to whole-school improvement.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience preparing pupils for SATs and managing the demands of the Year 6 assessment cycle.
  • Familiarity with current KS2 pedagogical approaches and intervention strategies.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND through tailored strategies and liaison with external agencies.
  • Competence using educational technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
  • Degree in Education or a relevant subject area – essential.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in primary education or KS2 – desirable.
  • Additional training in SEND, behaviour management, or curriculum leadership – desirable.

If you are a committed Year 6 practitioner ready to make a lasting impact in a Cheltenham school, please submit your application for immediate consideration.
