About the Role:
You will take full responsibility for a Year 6 class, planning and delivering engaging lessons across the curriculum that secure progress and readiness for Key Stage 3. Working closely with colleagues and leadership, you will contribute to whole-school standards, assessment, and enrichment activities, ensuring pupils are challenged, supported, and motivated to achieve their best.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons that meet National Curriculum expectations for Year 6.
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively, establishing clear routines and a positive learning environment.
- Use ongoing assessment to track pupil progress, identify gaps, and adapt teaching to secure strong outcomes, including end-of-Key Stage assessments.
- Provide targeted support and challenge to pupils with diverse learning needs, including SEND, EAL, and higher attainers.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil attainment and progress, contributing to data analysis and reporting to senior leaders.
- Communicate regularly with parents and carers, providing clear feedback on pupil progress and supporting home–school partnership.
- Contribute to planning meetings, moderation activities, and wider school initiatives as an active member of the staff team.
- Organise and support educational visits, transition activities, and enrichment opportunities relevant to the Year 6 curriculum.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience teaching in Key Stage 2, with specific experience in Year 6 or upper KS2 strongly preferred.
- Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to maintain high expectations and a calm, purposeful learning environment.
- Demonstrable expertise in lesson planning and curriculum delivery aligned to the National Curriculum.
- Ability to differentiate effectively to meet a wide range of learning needs and styles.
- Confident use of formative and summative assessment to inform planning and raise attainment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to whole-school improvement.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience preparing pupils for SATs and managing the demands of the Year 6 assessment cycle.
- Familiarity with current KS2 pedagogical approaches and intervention strategies.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND through tailored strategies and liaison with external agencies.
- Competence using educational technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Qualifications:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
- Degree in Education or a relevant subject area – essential.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in primary education or KS2 – desirable.
- Additional training in SEND, behaviour management, or curriculum leadership – desirable.
